For three days on the long weekend of May 1, Attila Valter, the reigning Hungarian champion and former Giro d’Italia pink jersey wearer, will arrive in Balatonfüred, Hungary, as the rider of the world’s best road cycling team Jumbo-Visma.

Valter will be guest of honour at the 2023 BalatonFondo and will spend the whole weekend at the event, is also actively involved in its programmes. Introducing your new team’s jersey, and of course he will also have the Maglia Rosa!

Balatonfondo road cycling granfondo is created to commemorate the Big Start of the Giro d’Italia 2022 in Hungary. Participants can ride on the same roads as used for the second stage of the Giro, won by Mark Cavendish in Balatonfüred. Road will be fully closed from the traffic.

“Let’s be honest, if it wasn’t for Valter, the Giro’s home Big Start would not have been so fantastic in 2022. Most of the Hungarian fans came to the race because of him, followed the events because of him. BalatonFondo also commemorates the Giro, and Attila could not be left out of this, as the greatest credit in our country goes to him for the Giro d’Italia. Great pride for us, that such a successful athlete has accepted our invitation and that we can spend a season kick-off weekend with him in Balatonfüred” – said race director László Szilasi about the big announcement.

You can meet Attila during the weekend at the following times and activities:

Sunday, 30.04.2023:

– 14.00-15.00: signing and photo session at the Skoda stand at the Annagora Aquapark Expo area in Balatonfüred.

Monday, 01.05.2023:

– 09.00: at the start of the 126 km and 60 km road marathons, where Attila gives the start signal for both races.

– 15.00: at the closing prize-giving and raffle draw at the Annagora Aquapark in Balatonfüred.
